Longest Tunnel in South Korea : Inje-Yangyang Tunnel

 Most of Korea people go to east sea for summer vacation, with friend, friend of opposite sex and family. When we go to east sea, we have to pass mountain range which is representative moutain range in Korea. We call it Baekdu Daegan. Baekdu is from Baekdu mountian which is located between North Korea and China. Daegan means big range. This range starts from Baekdu Mountain in North Korea and stretch to southern part of South Korea. So korean consider this range as spine of Korean peninsula.

So we have to pass many tunnels when we go to east sea by expressway. And there is one tunnel called Inje-Yangyang tunnel on Seoul-Yangyang expressway. This is the longest tunnel for vehicle in south korea. Actually there is one another longest tunnel called Yulhyeon tunnel, this is for train. So Inje-Yangyang tunnel is the longest tunnel that we can pass by car. 

Information of Inje-Yangyang tunnel

This is 10,965m long. It opened at June 30 2016. It is the 11th longest tunnel in the world. I mentioned about baekdu daegan, original name of this tunnel was baekdudaegan inje tunnel. now its name is Inje-Yangyang tunnel. because it connects Inje district and Yangyang district of Gangwon Province.

When it was build, Daewoo Consortium company chose very speical digging way. that is digging from 4 ways. Normally tunnel is digged from both side. Daewoo Consortium Company digged another 200m long auxiliary tunnel  from the mountain side to connect the middle of Inje-Yangyang tunnel. And they sent excavator to the middle of tunnel and digged tunnel from middle to end. so it was digged from 4 ways. and it shortend working time. 

It is designed to have 4 curve lines, so that it can prevent dozing off at the wheel.
